LOSKI's Community Health Education and Wellness Center - Coming Soon!

At Lex Orandi School, we believe that for education to be an effective tool for development, it must extend beyod the walls and desks of a classroom.  In order for students to witness education in action through citizenship and community building, we are implementing innovative ways to demonstrate these values at LOSKI.

One of these plans is to build a nonprofit health education and wellness center in our Kibenga neighborhood: the LOSKI Pharmacy.

Why the Pharmacy?

  • Burundi is the 3rd poorest country in the world

  • People have little or no access to health prevention and education

  • Local pharmacies are about profit: they can dispense wrong or expired meds

  • People live with and die from undiagnosed diabetes and hypertension

  • Gender disparity in the school dropout rate due to absence of Menstrual Health and Management Education

  • Women suffer from unnecessary infections due to the lack of female-focused health education

The purpose of the pharmacy is to be a local health resource and to provide our students with a direct window on the impact of one's education on the wider community.

The pharmacy will provide:

  • Free/subsidized prescriptions, immunizations, and over-the-counter medication

  • Freventative care and education workshops to the community, starting with the families we serve

  • Free screenings and management advice for diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure

  • Partnerships with international health professionals for periodic physical consultations, dentistry, and other medical needs

  • Puberty education workshops for teachers, families, and adolescents

  • Health and hygiene supplies including cloth sanitary napkins, pain management medication,

  • Compassionate, informative counseling with each prescription on medication interactions
